2014 Women in Business Award Nominations

 

The Annual Women in Business Gala Awards Dinner will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2014, at the Holiday Inn Sydney Waterfront, 300 Esplanade, Sydney.
 
Please accept this invitation to nominate a deserving woman from Cape Breton for her contribution to the local economy in one of the categories outlined below.

Nomination forms can be sumitted by e-mail to joyce@businesscapebreton.ca; faxed to 902-562-2866, or mailed to the Cape Breton Small Business Development Program, 77 Kings Road, Sydney, B1S 1A2.

Eligibility requirements are that:

  • The nominee is a resident of Cape Breton Island or Mulgrave and that the business also operates in Cape Breton or Mulgrave.
  • That the nominee is at least 50 % owner of her business.
  • That the company is registered with Nova Scotia Registry of Joint Stocks or federally incorporated. 
  • That the company is in good standing with Canada Revenue Agency. 

These requirements will be confirmed with all nominees when applications are received.

AWARD CATEGORIES

Arts and Culture Achievement

This female entrepreneur has developed a viable business in the visual, literary or performing arts; or as an artisan.  She has been in business for a minimum of 3 years.

Business Woman of the Year

This female entrepreneur stands out in the community as a role model for solid business practises and for running a successful business.  She consistently meets or exceeds established customer service standards and uses ingenuity and innovation in her business.  She is recognized by her peers, customers, and community as an example of having a positive impact through entrepreneurism.

Continuity

This female entrepreneur has attained stability in business over a period of 5 years or more.  She is relied upon in the community and/or business sector for providing quality products and service on a consistent basis.  Her staff members are well trained and best business practises are followed.

Customer Service

This female entrepreneur has established best practises in her business that reflect a customer focus in all aspects of the business.  She and her staff display knowledge of products and services, are dedicated to providing timely service by meeting customer needs, and will adjust to meet changing needs of clients.  She provides training in customer service to all employees and insures that top quality customer service standards are maintained and provided to customers on a consistent basis. 

Impact Award

The Impact Award will go to a business woman who motivates, mentors, inspires, supports and promotes others to be successful.  She shares her time, strength, knowledge and experience with no expectation of personal benefit.  Her reward is watching someone soar to new heights with their business that they may not have reached alone.

Innovation Award

This award will be presented to a female entrepreneur who has demonstrated any or all of the following 

  • Applying better solutions for her business that meet new requirements or current market needs.
  • Using technology to work smarter and produce results that benefit her business.
  • Providing training for her staff that enables them to enhance their skills to meet the needs of the changing workplace.

Start-Up Award

This female entrepreneur has been in business for no more than 5 years, has a profitable (or revenue generating) business, and is ready for the next stage of growth.  She has had an impact on the business community by introducing a new business, product or service to the area.
